Thailand is the leading among the Asian countries known as “the little tiger” (Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia), whose economy leaped to a higher level during the ’80s and ’90s, when it started to produce products requiring hi-tech production means.
In spite of the devastating damages the Tsunami in 2004 and COVID-19 caused, Thailand’s tourism did very well this year, and Thailand’s Central Bank predicts that about 25 million tourists will visit Thailand during 2023 which is double that of last year.

Hotels, Resorts, and SPA in Koh Samui
There are about 635 hotels and guesthouses of different price levels and styles on Samui Island. The total number of rooms available is about 24,500.
Hyatt Regency, U Samui, Socialtel, Holiday Inn Express, Holiday Inn Resort, Kimpton, Nabor, The COAST, The Hive, and Sofitel, all opened in the last 2 years. For reasons of privacy, exclusivity, and being secluded, most 5-star hotels are situated as far as they can from the touristic center.
77% of all hotels are branded, and 63% are midscale and luxury. During peak season the occupancy rate is nearly 100%. All luxury hotels, with the exception of Centara Reserve, are located as far away from Chaweng as they can (Captive audience = “additional Income”).
Properties such as luxury villas are marketed with additional features, like swimming pools, accessorized kitchens, Jacuzzi, groomed gardens, 24-hour security, tennis courts, laundry services, and so on.
The Island’s beautiful landscape provides a convenient background for all those resort hotels and relaxation sites, which are scattered throughout the Island.
In terms of pampering, there are many different price levels on the Island, from small and low-priced massage parlors to expensive SPA resorts providing treatments, Yoga, massage, and more.
In addition to the current international flights to and from Samui Airport, there is a plan to open two more city destinations in Eastern Asia.
Note: Family vacation solutions with kid’s activities, and the “all-inclusive” concept have not yet been introduced in Samui, however, they are very popular on the slightly bigger island of Phuket.
